NBR Set to Become Specialized Division Under Finance Ministry

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is set to be transformed into a distinct and specialized Division under the Ministry of Finance.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry today, the restructuring aims to strengthen the NBR as a dedicated entity, while safeguarding the interests of the BCS (Taxation) and BCS (Customs and VAT) cadres. This will be achieved through consultations with NBR officials, members of the Advisory Committee on NBR reforms, and other key stakeholders.

The release also stated that necessary amendments to the ‘Revenue Policy and Revenue Management Ordinance 2025’ will be made by July 31, 2025. Until these changes are implemented, the ordinance will not take effect.

The Ministry issued this clarification in response to concerns raised by the NBR Songskar Oikya Parishad following an earlier press note dated May 22, 2025. The government expressed hope that this move will address the worries of income tax, customs, and VAT personnel, and inspire renewed motivation across all revenue-related offices nationwide.
