UK Freezes Sheikh Rehana’s Property Amid Graft Probe Involving Tulip Siddiq

The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) has secured a legal order freezing the sale of a luxury London residence owned by Sheikh Rehana, younger sister of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, according to a report by the Daily Mail. The property, located in Golders Green, North London, has served as Rehana’s primary residence for the past 14 years and is now under scrutiny in a widening graft and money laundering investigation that also implicates her daughter, Tulip Siddiq—a former City minister and current Labour MP for Hampstead.

This development marks the second major action by UK authorities as part of their probe into alleged financial misconduct linked to the former Awami League government. On Saturday, the NCA also obtained nine freezing orders against high-value assets belonging to Ahmed Shayan Rahman, 42, the son of prominent businessman and ex-investment adviser Salman F Rahman, and his cousin Ahmed Shahryar Rahman. The frozen assets, mostly luxury properties, are collectively worth nearly £90 million.

The property linked to Sheikh Rehana was purchased in 2011 for £1.2 million through a company registered in the Isle of Man, a well-known tax haven. The buyer was Ahmed Shayan Rahman, who until recently served as chairman of the British Asian Trust, a charitable organization founded by King Charles. The trust confirmed that Rahman stepped down following the NCA’s intervention.

The freezing order coincides with broader allegations that Tulip Siddiq and her family embezzled nearly £4 billion from a nuclear power project involving a Russian firm. The NCA’s investigation reportedly centres on suspected money laundering related to this deal, while authorities in Bangladesh are said to be conducting a parallel inquiry.

Tulip Siddiq, 42, who is also the niece of Sheikh Hasina, resigned from her ministerial post in January amid a parliamentary standards probe into family-owned properties, some allegedly gifted by political associates in Bangladesh. She has not commented publicly on the matter, and attempts to contact Shayan Rahman for a response were unsuccessful.
