Ex-BB Deputy Governor SK Sur’s Wife Sentenced to Two Years in ACC Case

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced Suparna Sur Chowdhury, wife of former Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Sitangshu Kumar Sur (SK Sur), to two years in prison in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for failing to submit a wealth statement.

The court also fined her Tk1 lakh. In default of payment, she will have to serve an additional three months in jail.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 Judge Md Robiul Islam delivered the verdict, said ACC prosecutor Shah Md Nazmus Sakib.

Suparna was brought to the court from jail earlier in the day and was later sent back to jail with a conviction warrant following the verdict.

According to case documents, the ACC had ordered Suparna to submit a detailed statement of her assets, liabilities and sources of income, along with those of individuals dependent on her husband SK Sur, whether held in their own names or under fictitious names. The order followed allegations that she possessed assets beyond her known sources of income.

She failed to submit the required statement within 21 working days of receiving the order, despite being provided with the wealth statement form on 27 October 2024.

Subsequently, ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Hossain filed the case against her under Section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, on 23 December 2024.

ACC Assistant Director AM Taher submitted the charge sheet to the court on 29 June 2025, while the court framed charges against Suparna on 3 February this year.

During the trial, the court recorded statements from five prosecution witnesses.
