PM Tarique to depart for New York on Sept 21 to attend UNGA
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to leave Dhaka for New York on 21 September to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir said on Sunday.
He said the prime minister is expected to remain in New York until 26 September, during which he will address the UN General Assembly and hold a series of meetings with world leaders.
Humaiun disclosed the tentative itinerary while speaking to reporters at the Foreign Ministry.
“Insha Allah, the prime minister’s UN programme will be announced in detail. We will probably leave on the 21st and stay in New York until the 26th,” he said.
The state minister said Tarique Rahman will have a busy schedule in New York and present Bangladesh’s vision to the international community, including his outlook for building a “new Bangladesh”.
“Bangladesh has now gone through a democratic transition, with the BNP being elected to government through a free and fair election. The prime minister will share his vision of where he wants to take Bangladesh with the international community at the United Nations,” Humaiun said.
