SpaceX VP Lauren Dreyer Applauds Bangladesh’s Role in Starlink Launch
Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of SpaceX, has praised the coordinated efforts of Bangladeshi government officials for their instrumental role in facilitating the successful launch of Starlink services in the country.
She made the remarks during a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna on Friday.
“We operate in 150 countries and territories, but we’ve never experienced such efficiency and decisiveness,” Dreyer noted. “On behalf of all my colleagues at SpaceX, I thank you. We look forward to continued collaboration with your team.”
Chief Adviser Professor Yunus welcomed her to Bangladesh, remarking on the season: “It’s a beautiful time of year—monsoon brings lush greenery and abundant water. But it also brings challenges like flooding and waterlogging, underscoring the urgent need for reliable connectivity.”
He stressed the importance of reaching underserved areas: “Our hill tracts remain largely disconnected, lacking access to schools, teachers, and medical professionals. We’re working to introduce online education in 100 schools, which will help students in these remote regions.”
Highlighting healthcare priorities, he said: “We are expanding digital healthcare services so people in remote areas can consult doctors online. Their medical records will be digitally stored for easy access during future visits. This is especially crucial during pregnancy, when women often rely on male relatives for in-person visits. With telehealth, they can receive care from home.”
He also emphasized the benefits for the Bangladeshi diaspora: “Many expatriates are reluctant to seek medical help abroad due to language barriers. Through this system, they’ll be able to consult Bangladeshi doctors online. While these initiatives are small in scale here, they have the potential to go global.”
In response, Dreyer lauded Professor Yunus’s vision. “Your work sets an example that others can follow. If it can be done in Bangladesh, it can be replicated elsewhere.”
She also commended his efforts to fight corruption: “Ensuring public services reach the people is admirable. I travel extensively and understand how deeply corruption affects societies. Leveraging technology to decentralize services and improve governance is a powerful approach.”
The meeting was also attended by Richard Griffiths, Global Engagement Consultant at SpaceX; National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman; Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology; and Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of BIDA and BEZA.
