Silent protest held in Dhaka denouncing attack on democracy and smear campaign against Tarique.

A silent procession of professionals was held in Dhaka on Friday, protesting attempts to undermine the country’s democratic framework and defame Tarique Rahman, who was portrayed as a symbol of youth empowerment.
Organised by the Bangladesh United Professionals Council, the procession began at the Jatiya Press Club and moved through Kadamful Fountain, Topkhana Road, and Purana Paltan before circling back to the Press Club.
The march was led by the council’s convener, Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, and member secretary, journalist Kader Gani Chowdhury.
Addressing the participants, Dr Zahid warned that the country's democracy is facing serious threats from "shadowy conspirators" working behind the scenes. “These forces are the biggest barriers to the restoration of democratic governance,” he stated.
Kader Gani Chowdhury said that despite nearly two decades of struggle, the people of Bangladesh are still deprived of their right to vote freely. He alleged that “fascist agents” continue to hold sway within the administration and urged their immediate removal.
He further demanded the repeal of all oppressive laws, including the Cyber Security Act, and called for an end to the “politics of defamation and conspiracy” targeting national leaders.
The procession drew participation from a diverse group of professionals and distinguished citizens, including Bangladesh Open University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam, senior advocate Subrata Chowdhury, National University Pro-VC Professor Dr Lutfur Rahman, corporate leader Syed Alamgir, as well as educationists, doctors, engineers, agriculturists, and journalists.
