RUCSU Election Code of Conduct Published

The Rajshahi University authorities on Thursday published the code of conduct for the upcoming elections to the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU), hall unions, and student representatives to the university senate. The full guidelines were made available on the university's official website in the afternoon.

As per the code, all candidates must submit a negative dope test report. Failure to do so will result in immediate cancellation of their candidacy.

Each candidate may appoint up to five representatives to campaign on their behalf. Campaigning by any other individuals, either in support of or against any candidate, is strictly prohibited. Additionally, electioneering within academic buildings, classrooms, and residential halls is banned.

On election day, only RU faculty members, staff, and other authorised personnel will be permitted on campus. Students must carry their identity cards, and no one will be allowed to stay in residential halls during the polling period.

Earlier this week, a seven-member election commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner Prof Amzad Hossain announced the RUCSU election schedule, with voting set for September 15, 2025.

According to the timeline, the draft voter list will be published on August 6, with objections to be reviewed and resolved on August 7, 10, 11, and 12. The final voter list will be released on August 14.

Nomination papers will be distributed between August 17 and 19, and accepted on August 21, 24, and 25. Scrutiny will take place on August 27 and 28, with the preliminary list of candidates published on August 31. Candidates may withdraw by September 2, and the final list will be published on September 4.

Polling will be held in all residential halls on September 15, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Although the RUCSU constitution mandates annual student union elections, the process has long remained suspended due to various factors, primarily national political instability. The last RUCSU polls were held during the 1989–90 academic year, when Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed was elected Vice-President and Chhatra League (JSD)'s Ruhul Kuddus Babu became General Secretary.
