Interim Government Announces Month-Long Programme to Commemorate July Uprising

The Interim Government has announced a comprehensive month-long programme to mark the first anniversary of the historic July mass uprising.

According to a statement issued today by the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing, the programme aims to honour the martyrs and rekindle the spirit of unity that swept across the nation during last July’s events.

At a press conference on June 19, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki stated that the initiative was designed to preserve the collective memory of the uprising. The programme will officially commence on July 1, with the main events scheduled between July 14 and August 5.

“The objective of this programme is to revive the spirit that brought the entire nation together,” Farooki said.

Programme Highlights

July 1:

  • Special prayers across mosques, temples, pagodas, churches, and other places of worship in remembrance of the martyrs.

  • Release of a commemorative July calendar.

  • Launch of a mass signature campaign demanding justice for the perpetrators of the July massacre (to continue until August 1).

  • Announcement of National University scholarships in memory of the martyrs.

July 5:

  • A nationwide postering campaign to raise awareness about the repression carried out by the ousted Awami League regime.

July 7:

  • Launch of a dedicated website: JulyForever.org.

July 14 – "Mora Jhanjar Moto Uddam":

  • Video commemorations and testimonial sessions with families of martyrs (continuing through July 36).

  • Designated as "July Women’s Day"; memorials to be established in every district.

  • Shilpakala Academy and public universities will screen videos in all 64 districts.

  • Events at TSC will include documentary screenings, projection mapping, July songs, and a drone show.

July 15 – "Ami Chitkar Koria Kaditea Chahiya":

  • Screening of videos and documentaries.

  • July-themed musical performances.

  • LED wall installation at Dhaka University and projection mapping at various universities.

July 16 – "Katha Ka":

  • Video sharing continues.

  • VR shows at three divisional cities.

  • A memorial event for Shaheed Abu Sayeed at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur.

  • Drone show and musical performances in Chattogram.

July 17 – "Shikal-pora Chhol":

  • Symbolic coffin processions.

  • Commemorative programmes at universities across the country.

  • Testimonial sessions by university faculty.

  • Documentary exhibitions hosted on campuses.

July 18 – "Awaaz Uda":

  • A one-minute symbolic internet blackout.

  • Events featuring songs, documentaries, drone shows, and a ‘July Remembrance’ at private universities in Dhaka.

  • A traction show and a marathon will also take place.

July 19 – "Koto Biplabi Bandhur Rokhtea Ranga":

  • Commemorative rallies in Narsingdi and Savar.

  • Countrywide documentary screenings, designated as the "Day of Resistance Against Genocide".

July 20 – "Deshta Tomar Baper Naki?":

  • Video screenings and rallies, including at Basila and Mirpur-10.

  • Documentary screenings at key locations nationwide.

July 21 – "Rakhto Gorom Matha Danda":

  • Events held in all madrasas under the Madrasa Education Board.

  • National screenings and a commemorative rally in Jatrabari.

July 22 – "Abhas":

  • Inauguration of ‘Adomya-24’ monument at Jahangirnagar University.

  • Poetry recitations at the Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University.

July 23 – "Karar Oi Lowha Kapat":

  • Global Solidarity Day with online/offline events featuring international influencers.

  • Remittance worker-focused event.

  • Photo exhibitions at embassies, graffiti art installations, and a July graffiti exhibition.

July 24 – "Ki Korchea Tomar Baba":

  • Day dedicated to child martyrs.

  • Nationwide school competitions on July-themed art.

  • Memorial event for child martyr Riya Gope in Narayanganj.

  • Unveiling of a sculpture at Shishu Academy and release of a graphic novel for children.

July 25 – "Cholo Bholea Jai":

  • Street theatre and plays staged across the country as part of “Revolution on Stage”.

July 26 – "Palashiri Prantar":

  • Student gatherings at Suhrawardy Udyan.

  • Documentary on madrasa participation in the movement.

  • July-themed rap performances and a book fair at Bangla Academy.
