Gold and silver prices have fallen again in the local market, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announcing a cut of Tk4,432 per bhori (11.664 grams) for gold and Tk58 per bhori for silver.

The revised rates took effect on Friday (June 12), BAJUS said in a statement.

According to the association, the latest adjustment reflects a decline in the prices of pure gold and refined silver in the domestic market, prompting a review of jewellery rates in line with prevailing market conditions.

Under the new pricing, 22-carat gold now costs Tk218,350 per bhori. The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk208,436 per bhori, while 18-carat gold is selling for Tk178,692. Gold produced through traditional methods is now priced at Tk145,508 per bhori.

The move follows a previous price revision on June 10, when BAJUS fixed the rate of 22-carat gold at Tk222,782 per bhori. The latest adjustment marks a further reduction of Tk4,432 per bhori.

Silver prices have also been revised downward. A bhori of 22-carat silver now costs Tk4,841, while 21-carat silver is priced at Tk4,607. The rates for 18-carat and traditional-method silver have been set at Tk3,966 and Tk2,974 per bhori, respectively.

BAJUS data show that gold prices have been revised 73 times this year, including 37 increases and 36 reductions. Silver prices have been adjusted 44 times, with an equal number of hikes and cuts—22 each.

Market observers attribute the frequent price changes to volatility in global precious metals markets and fluctuations in local raw material costs. They expect such price swings to persist in the near term.
