Mohakhali Building Fire: Electrical Substation Located on Third Floor
A fire broke out on the rooftop of an old four-storey building behind the British American Tobacco building in the capital’s Mohakhali area on Thursday.
Firefighters are working cautiously to bring the blaze under control as an electrical substation is located on the third floor, close to the affected area.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence received the report of the fire at around 11:12am. Three units from Tejgaon Fire Station rushed to the scene and began efforts to extinguish the blaze.
According to the Fire Service, the fire originated from discarded plastic materials stored on the rooftop. Talha Bin Jasim, an officer of the Fire Service headquarters’ media cell, said the blaze broke out in the discarded plastic on the rooftop of the old building beside the British American Tobacco building.
He said three units from Tejgaon Fire Station were working to bring the fire under control.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be determined immediately, he added.
No casualties have been reported so far.
