A group of Dhaka University students staged a late-night protest on campus early Friday, demanding a ban on the Awami League.

The demonstration began around 2:00 AM in the university’s hall para area and concluded with a brief rally in front of the anti-terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture. Protesters chanted slogans such as “The Awami League must be banned immediately,” “Beware, accomplices of fascism,” and “Ban, ban, the murderous League.”

During the rally, Dhaka University student Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad declared, “You are trying to give them space for the sake of power. As long as there is a drop of blood in our bodies, we will not allow the Awami League to continue its politics.”

Another student, AB Zubair, stated that the people of the country would not accept the continued existence of those responsible for bloodshed and genocide.

Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad also announced another protest rally at 3:00 PM on Friday, urging school and college students to join the movement.

As part of the demonstration, students lit fires and sat in circles, chanting slogans calling for the Awami League’s ban.

The protest followed media reports of a discussion at the state guesthouse Jamuna, where Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus informed a delegation led by International Crisis Group (ICG) President and CEO Comfort Ero that the interim government had no plans to ban the Awami League.

Reacting to this statement, Dhaka University students took to the streets late at night in protest.
