CA Yunus Calls on Bhutan to Invest in Bangladesh

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay, on Friday, during the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties, with both leaders stressing the importance of enhancing trade and connectivity between Bangladesh and Bhutan.

They discussed a range of issues of mutual interest aimed at deepening economic and strategic cooperation between the two South Asian neighbours.

During the meeting, Chief Adviser Yunus invited Prime Minister Tobgay to send a delegation of Bhutanese investors to participate in the upcoming Investment Summit scheduled to be held in Dhaka next week.

The discussions also covered developments related to the dedicated economic zone in northern Kurigram district that Bangladesh has allocated exclusively for Bhutan.

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay expressed interest in leveraging this economic zone, stating that Bhutanese investors plan to invest in fruit processing industries and other manufacturing units within the zone.

These industrial initiatives are intended to produce goods for export to countries across the region, thereby promoting regional trade and economic integration.

Additionally, the Bhutanese Prime Minister sought a dedicated fibre optic internet connection from Bangladesh to enhance Bhutan’s digital connectivity and technological infrastructure.
