The National Task Force (NTF) on Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs) has called on the United Nations (UN) and the global community to ensure sufficient funding for sustaining ongoing humanitarian efforts for the Rohingya population and host communities in Bangladesh.

This appeal was made during the 46th NTF meeting, chaired by Foreign Secretary Md Jasim Uddin, on December 24 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a press release issued on Saturday.

In the meeting, the Foreign Secretary reiterated that the only sustainable solution lies in the voluntary and safe repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar. “We urge all stakeholders to take effective actions to resolve this crisis,” he stated.

The meeting was attended by representatives from UN agencies, the World Bank, the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), and officials from various ministries and agencies.

A strong appeal was made to the UN for coordinated efforts to ensure the dignified return of the Rohingyas to Myanmar, with their rights and security guaranteed. UN representatives provided updates on initiatives in Rakhine State and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to establish a safe and conducive environment for repatriation.

The meeting addressed pressing issues concerning the Rohingya population in Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char, including camp management, infrastructure, electricity, healthcare, and family planning. Discussions also focused on financing for both Rohingya and host communities, supported by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

Participants highlighted the challenges posed by the prolonged presence of the Rohingyas in Bangladesh, particularly regarding socio-economic and security impacts. The meeting also underscored the importance of enhancing security around the camps and addressing the needs of newly arrived Myanmar nationals.
