Police apprehended Zia Bin Kashem, a prominent leader of the pro-Saad faction of the Tabligh Jamaat movement, in the Double Mooring area of Chattogram district on Saturday. He is accused of involvement in the killing of three Tabligh devotees at the Ijtema Grounds. NM Nasiruddin, Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police South Division, confirmed the arrest to reporters, stating that Kashem was being transported to Tongi.

Zia Bin Kashem is the sixth defendant in a case filed at Tongi Paschim Police Station concerning the fatal clashes at the Tongi Ijtema Ground on December 18. Three Muslim devotees, reportedly affiliated with the rival pro-Zubair faction, were killed, and more than a hundred others were injured in the violence when the pro-Saad group attempted to storm the Ijtema Ground, which was occupied by the pro-Zubair faction.
