A JNU student was found dead in a dormitory in Old Dhaka

The body of Sabrina Rahman Shammi, a first-year Sociology student from Jagannath University (JnU), was found hanging in a dormitory at Tanugonj Lane, Katherpul, Old Dhaka, early Sunday. Police suspect suicide, according to Md Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Sutrapur police station. Shammi, who was enrolled in the 2021-22 academic session and originally from Narayanpur, Chougachha, Jessore, was identified by her father, Lipton.
Shammi's classmate, Ali Kazi, shared, “We learned around 4 am that Shammi had taken her own life. We rushed to her dorm, where her boyfriend, a Buet student, also arrived and left after showing signs of distress.”
Officer Saiful Islam added, “Shammi lived alone in a room at the student mess in Tanugonj Lane. Her body was found hanging at around 4:30 am and has been sent to Midfort Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.”
Dr. Muhammad Tajammul Haque, the Proctor of Jagannath University, said, “I arrived at Sutrapur police station this morning. Early reports suggest Shammi was in a relationship with a Buet student. The police are investigating to clarify all the circumstances and confirm there was no foul play. After the autopsy, her body will be taken to her village in Jessore.”
