A visiting United States delegation met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today and reiterated strong support for the Interim Government’s reform agenda.

During the meeting, held at the State Guest House Jamuna, the two sides also discussed regional issues related to peace, security, and development. The US delegation was led by Deputy Assistant Secretaries of State Nicole A. Chulick and Andrew Herrup. Bangladesh's National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman and US Mission Head Tracey Ann Jacobson were also present.

The US officials expressed deep appreciation for Bangladesh’s continued generosity in hosting 1.2 million Rohingya refugees and commended Prof Yunus for his leadership in advancing rehabilitation efforts. In response, the Chief Adviser welcomed Myanmar’s recent identification of 180,000 Rohingyas as eligible to return to Rakhine State, calling it a significant step forward.

Chulick praised Prof Yunus’s comprehensive vision on the Rohingya issue, acknowledging his broader approach that places the crisis within the wider context of Myanmar’s situation.

The delegation also lauded his initiatives to strengthen regional cooperation, connectivity, and people-to-people ties.

Chief Adviser Yunus highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States and reaffirmed his government's commitment to engaging closely with the Trump administration across the full spectrum of bilateral issues.

He also thanked President Donald J. Trump for resuming aid for the Rohingya population and introducing a ninety-day pause on reciprocal tariffs.

“We are continuing our work to support his trade agenda,” Prof Yunus added.
