Two Brothers Hacked to Death in Narsingdi Over Alleged Extortion; Parents Critically Injured

• Two brothers were brutally hacked to death by miscreants in Bhaagdi, Palash upazila of Narsingdi, on Monday night, allegedly for refusing to pay extortion money.

• Their parents sustained critical injuries while trying to save them.

• The victims, identified as Shakib Mia (20) and Rakib Mia (25), were sons of Ashraf Uddin from Kartatail village.

• Family members stated that a group of local criminals had been demanding extortion money from Rakib and his father, Ashraf Uddin, who was involved in sending workers abroad.

• On Monday night, Shakib and his friends were celebrating Eid when the assailants launched an attack in Kartatail.

• Rakib and their parents rushed to the scene upon hearing the news but were also assaulted by the attackers.

• As locals intervened, the criminals fled.

• The injured were taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where Shakib was pronounced dead. Rakib succumbed to his injuries en route to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Their parents remain in critical condition.

• Hajera Begum, the victims’ aunt, accused local criminals and demanded justice.

• Palash Police Station OC Monir Hossain stated that locals had previously beaten several individuals on suspicion of theft.

• Police rescued the injured and transported them to the hospital. An investigation is currently underway.
