The NCP has said that the Election Commission lacks the capacity to effectively enforce the electoral code of conduct.

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has voiced strong support for the Election Commission following the amendment to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), which now requires alliance candidates to run using their own party symbols.

The party urged the Commission to stand firm on this decision despite pressure from larger political parties.

At the same time, NCP leaders questioned the Commission’s capacity to properly enforce the electoral code of conduct, criticising the ban on posters and what they called “unfounded” restrictions.

On Wednesday, seven parties — including the NCP — joined an EC dialogue held at the Commission’s headquarters in Agargaon.

This was the NCP’s first participation in such a dialogue since obtaining registration.
