Jamaat, the NCP, and several other parties take part in the EC’s dialogue.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the National Citizen Party (NCP), and several other political parties joined the Election Commission’s ongoing pre-election dialogue on Wednesday morning ahead of the February 2026 general election.
The meeting began at 10:40am at Nirbachan Bhaban, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin.
Jamaat’s delegation, led by Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, and the NCP team, headed by Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, took part in the discussions.
Other parties invited to the morning session included Ganosamhati Andolan, the Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM), Bangladesh Labour Party, Bangladesh Minority Janata Party (BMJP), and Insaniat Biplab Bangladesh.
The Commission scheduled two rounds of talks for Wednesday—seven parties in the morning and six more in the afternoon, including the BNP. Afternoon participants also included Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP-Andaleev), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Nagorik Oikya, Bangladesh Republican Party (BRP), and Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Basad Marxist).
The EC launched its dialogue with registered political parties on November 13 and has so far met with 34 parties.
There are currently 55 registered political parties, excluding the Awami League, whose registration remains suspended.
This round of dialogues is seen as the Commission’s final major task before announcing the national election schedule in early December.
In late September 2025, the EC began a broader series of engagements with stakeholders, starting with civil society representatives on September 28, followed by separate sessions with teachers, senior journalists, election experts, and election observers.
