Tamim Calls for Cricket to Take Priority Over BCB Power Struggles

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has voiced strong concern over the current state of cricket in the country, urging all stakeholders to shift their attention from internal power struggles at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) back to the game itself. Speaking to journalists during a visit to Pakistan for his new bat business, Tamim lamented the growing dominance of boardroom politics and its impact on the sport’s appeal.
He pointed out that while changes in leadership are natural, the increasing public disinterest in cricket is more troubling. “The board seems to be about everything except cricket—who’s coming, who’s going, who’s becoming president. Meanwhile, cricket is losing its charm,” he said.
Tamim stressed the importance of honest reflection and accepting that Bangladesh cricket is in a difficult phase, not just at the national team level but throughout the entire system. “We’re suffering across the board, and unless we admit that, there’s no way forward,” he noted.
He concluded with a plea to refocus efforts on the development of cricket itself, rather than getting caught up in administrative battles. “This obsession with leadership changes isn’t helping. What truly matters is how we rebuild and grow our cricket—unfortunately, that’s what’s being neglected.”
