The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially extended Phil Simmons' tenure as head coach of the national men’s team until the ICC ODI World Cup in 2027.

Simmons, 61, initially joined Bangladesh in October 2024 on a short-term contract lasting until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. His tenure included key series against South Africa, Afghanistan, and the West Indies, along with the Champions Trophy campaign in Pakistan and the UAE. Impressed by his impact, the BCB has now secured his services on a long-term basis.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Simmons stated, “I am delighted to continue working with Bangladesh cricket. The talent in this team is undeniable, and I believe we have the potential to achieve great things together.”

He praised the players for their skill and dedication, emphasizing his excitement about helping them reach their full potential.

A seasoned coach with nearly two decades of experience, Simmons has previously led multiple international teams. After a playing career spanning 26 Tests and 143 ODIs for the West Indies between 1987 and 1999, he transitioned to coaching, beginning with Zimbabwe in 2004. He later guided Ireland from 2007 to 2015, leading them to three ICC World Cups and a famous victory over England in 2011.

Simmons also had two stints as West Indies head coach, including overseeing their ICC World T20 triumph in 2016, and coached Afghanistan from 2018 to 2019.
