At least 12 individuals who falsely claimed to be freedom fighters and acquired government certificates have applied to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs to surrender them.

Among them, one individual who used the certificate to secure a government job has since retired.

Another applicant admitted in his request that obtaining the certificate through false documentation was a grave mistake.

Additionally, some applicants have expressed deep remorse and apologized, stating, “I feel ashamed.”

Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, adviser to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, revealed this information as the nation marked its 55th Independence and National Day.

Earlier, on 11 December last year, Azam announced at a press conference that the interim government would grant indemnity to those voluntarily removing their names from the freedom fighters’ list. However, punitive measures would be taken against those who failed to do so.

Following this announcement, several fraudulent freedom fighters have submitted applications to have their names removed, according to the adviser.

However, the ministry has refrained from disclosing the identities of those who obtained certificates through false documents, considering their social status and dignity.
