Russia has launched its largest assault on Ukraine to date, unleashing 400 drones and 40 missiles in a massive attack.

Russia launched its most extensive assault on Ukraine since the war began, firing over 400 drones and more than 40 missiles across the country. The massive barrage came in the wake of Ukraine’s recent Operation Spiderweb, which targeted Russian strategic cruise missile carriers.

In a post on X on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, “Today, rescue and emergency operations continued throughout the day in multiple regions and cities across our country. The Russians launched over 400 drones and more than 40 missiles. Eighty people were injured, and some may still be trapped under the debris.”

He further added, “Unfortunately, not everyone around the world condemns these kinds of attacks — and that’s exactly what Putin is counting on. He’s using that silence to buy time and continue his war.”

According to the Ukrainian State Emergency Service, at least six people were killed, including three firefighters in Kyiv, two civilians in Lutsk, and another person in Chernihiv. Several others were wounded in the strikes, CNN reported.

Deadliest Strike in the 3-Year War

This latest wave of Russian attacks marks the most intense offensive since the war began over three years ago. The strikes targeted nearly every region of Ukraine, impacting nine in total — including Kyiv, Lviv, and Sumy.

Commenting on the broader implications, President Zelensky said, “Russia constantly attempts to divide the world’s unity to weaken the pressure against its war. We must remain focused. Diplomacy must be active, security guarantees must be implemented, and peace must be restored. That requires immediate steps, beginning with a ceasefire. The international community must intensify pressure on Russia to bring an end to these attacks.”

Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Defence claimed the strikes were a retaliation for what it called Ukraine’s “terrorist acts,” referring to last week’s Operation Spiderweb — during which Ukrainian forces reportedly damaged a third of Russia’s cruise missile carriers.
