Ukraine claims it has shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter jet

Ukraine's air force shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter jet on Saturday morning, according to a statement by the Ukrainian military.

“In the morning of June 7, 2025, as part of a successful Air Force operation in the Kursk direction, a Russian Su-35 was downed,” the military announced on Telegram.

No further details were provided. Russian authorities have yet to respond, and the claim has not been independently verified by Reuters.

The reported incident comes shortly after Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) carried out a major drone strike last week targeting more than 40 Russian military aircraft, reportedly damaging or destroying numerous Tu-95 and Tu-22 strategic bombers used by Russia to launch long-range missile attacks on Ukraine.
