The Pakistani Taliban have claimed responsibility for an attack that resulted in the deaths of 16 soldiers
Sixteen soldiers were killed and eight others injured in a terrorist attack early Saturday morning in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to intelligence sources.
The attack, which took place around 2:30 am local time (2130 GMT Friday) in South Waziristan district, involved a coordinated raid on a check post. The assault resulted in the deaths of several soldiers, with twelve bodies identified and four still unconfirmed, as reported by Xinhua.
The injured soldiers were quickly evacuated to the Frontier Corps Training Center for medical treatment.
In retaliation, the soldiers used rocket launchers and other available weapons, the sources stated.
The Pakistani military has not yet issued an official statement regarding the identity of the attackers.
