Former Social Welfare Secretary Arrested at Dhaka Airport

Police arrested former Social Welfare Secretary Ismail Hossain at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last night. Ershad Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the Airport Police Station, stated that Ismail, a member of the 11th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration), was preparing to travel to the US. "He was detained as a suspect from the airport terminal under Section 54 of the CrPC," the officer said.

Section 54 allows police and military personnel to make arrests without a warrant. The airport police later brought Ismail before a Dhaka court, requesting a seven-day remand. The court granted two days, and the officer mentioned that they are now investigating if there are any pending cases or allegations against him.

"If any case is found, he will be arrested in connection with it," he added.

Ismail had been forcibly retired on October 22.
