Political Rallies Grind Capital to a Halt with Massive Traffic Jams
BNP, Jamaat Rallies Paralyze Capital, Causing Severe Commuter Crisis

Dhaka ground to a standstill on Wednesday as simultaneous rallies by two major political parties caused severe traffic gridlock across the capital.
Supporters of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal—three key wings of the BNP—gathered at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters around noon to demand political rights for the youth.
At the same time, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held a rally at the city’s bustling Shahbagh intersection, where a roadside stage was set up to welcome its senior leader ATM Azharul Islam following his recent release.
Thousands of BNP supporters from nearby districts such as Gazipur, Narayanganj, Manikganj, and Comilla arrived in Dhaka by buses, trucks, and other vehicles, swelling the crowds at Nayapaltan.
Simultaneously, large numbers of Jamaat supporters converged at Shahbagh to greet Azharul Islam, a former death row inmate recently acquitted of charges related to war crimes committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
The two rallies caused severe congestion throughout the capital, creating a traffic crisis that left commuters stranded for hours, according to police and eyewitnesses.
