A US business delegation is visiting Bangladesh to explore investment opportunities in key sectors, including energy, technology, agriculture and finance.

“Leading American companies across energy, technology, agriculture, and finance are here to explore opportunities and build on more than 50 years of US-Bangladeshi economic ties,” US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen said on Wednesday as he welcomed the U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council (USBBC) Executive Business Delegation.

The delegation arrived in Bangladesh on August 11 and is scheduled to conclude its visit on August 13.

Meanwhile, the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) has pledged to facilitate and mobilise up to US$5 billion in investment over the next five years through its existing members and prospective US investors interested in Bangladesh.

The commitment was made during an AmCham Executive Committee meeting, led by President Syed Mohammad Kamal, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

During the meeting, AmCham highlighted its role since 1996 in strengthening Bangladesh-US economic and commercial relations and promoting a transparent, predictable, competitive and investment-friendly business environment.

AmCham said its member companies have already invested more than US$5 billion in Bangladesh, with significant potential for further investment.

The chamber also noted that its member companies collectively contribute more than 20% of the country’s tax revenue, reflecting their substantial contribution to the Bangladesh economy.

According to a media release, AmCham sought the Prime Minister’s leadership and the government’s cooperation in creating an enabling environment to achieve the five-year investment target.

The chamber also welcomed the government’s efforts to improve the country’s investment and business climate, particularly its move towards practical investment facilitation under the FY2026-27 reform package.
