Probe Report on BB Reserve Heist Due July 2

A Dhaka court has fixed July 2 as the new deadline for submitting the probe report in the case concerning the 2016 Bangladesh Bank reserve heist. The date was set by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Wahiduzzaman after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) failed to present the report on Sunday, according to BSS.
In February 2016, hackers stole \$101 million from Bangladesh Bank’s accounts with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Of the stolen amount, \$81 million was funneled into four accounts at Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) in the Philippines, while \$20 million was intended for a bank in Sri Lanka. However, the transfer to Sri Lanka was unsuccessful due to a spelling error made by the hackers. Bangladesh Bank later managed to recover around \$15 million from the Philippines.
The case was filed with Motijheel Police Station on March 15, 2016, by Zobayer Bin Huda, who was then the central bank’s Deputy Director for accounts and budgeting.
