MPO Teachers to Begin Work Abstention from Monday
Police used water cannons and sound grenades on Sunday afternoon to disperse the protesting teachers.

Protesting teachers have declared an indefinite work abstention at MPO-listed private educational institutions starting Monday.
Delwar Hossain Azizi, member secretary of the Alliance for the Nationalisation of MPO-Listed Educational Institutions, announced the decision at the Central Shaheed Minar on Sunday, urging the authorities to fulfill their demands — including a 20% house rent allowance based on the basic salary — and condemning the police attack on teachers in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital.
Earlier, terming the government-announced house rent hike “insufficient and unrealistic,” teachers and employees of MPO-listed private institutions had declared an indefinite sit-in in front of the Jatiya Press Club.
On Sunday afternoon, police used water cannons and sound grenades to disperse the protesting teachers, who had blocked the busy road in the Press Club area for several hours.
During the demonstrations, they also announced a work abstention beginning Tuesday to press home their demands.
