The government has announced cash incentives for the recovery of weapons and ammunition looted from police custody, as part of efforts to retrieve all missing arms before the 13th parliamentary election slated for February next year.

Earlier, on August 25, Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced bounties for information leading to the recovery of firearms stolen after August 5 last year.

According to a statement issued by Police Headquarters today, individuals who return the missing arms will receive monetary rewards based on the type of weapon recovered.

Under the scheme, Tk 5 lakh will be awarded for a Light Machine Gun (LMG), Tk 1.5 lakh for a Submachine Gun (SMG), Tk 1 lakh for a Chinese Rifle, and Tk 50,000 for a pistol or shotgun.

Additionally, a reward of Tk 500 will be given for each recovered bullet.

Authorities have urged citizens who find any of the missing weapons or ammunition to immediately contact their nearest police station, assuring that the identity of informants and finders will remain strictly confidential.

Officials said the initiative aims to enhance public safety and accelerate the recovery of the looted arms.
