Ex-AL MP Iqbal Sabuj, Family Barred from Travel Over Graft Allegations

A Dhaka court today imposed a travel ban on Mohammad Iqbal Hossain Sabuj, former Awami League MP from Gazipur-3, along with his wife Nigar Sultana and brother Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain, in connection with ongoing corruption allegations.

Judge Md Zakir Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court issued the order following a petition filed by Md Saidul Islam, an assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The application was presented by ACC Public Prosecutor Ruhul Islam Khan.

The ACC stated in its petition that an investigation is underway into allegations that the three individuals amassed wealth beyond their known sources of income. The agency said it had received credible information indicating they were attempting to leave the country, which could obstruct the ongoing inquiry. Therefore, the ACC requested the court's intervention to prevent their departure.

The court also instructed that a copy of the travel ban order be sent to the Special Branch of police in Malibagh for enforcement.
