Tarique, Zubaida Cleared of Charges in ACC Corruption Case

The High Court has overturned the prison sentences of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman, acquitting them in an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) case involving illicit wealth. Justice Md Khasruzzaman ruled that the ACC’s case was legally flawed, citing that Zubaida was not properly notified and describing the entire process as malicious.
Although Tarique did not appeal his sentence, the court also overturned it. The case, filed in 2007 during the caretaker government, accused Tarique, Zubaida, and her mother of concealing assets and providing false information. After years of legal battles and suspensions of sentences, Zubaida returned to Bangladesh in May 2025 and filed an appeal that the High Court accepted before finally acquitting both.
