Ishraq Supporters Besiege Nagar Bhaban for Fifth Day, Services Halted

Supporters of BNP leader Ishraq Hossain continued their siege of Nagar Bhaban in Dhaka for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, demanding that he be granted the mayoral responsibilities of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). The protesters had earlier sealed off Nagar Bhaban, the DSCC headquarters, disrupting all work and public services.

Loyalists of Ishraq, including some DSCC officers and employees, locked the main gate and entrances to various departments, effectively bringing services to a halt. Citizens seeking services were turned away without assistance. The protesters gathered outside Nagar Bhaban stated that no action had yet been taken to facilitate Ishraq’s oath-taking as mayor and vowed to persist with their movement until he is officially installed. They also warned of intensifying their protests if their demands remain unmet.
