A Singapore-bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka shortly after take-off on Friday morning due to suspected engine issues.

Flight BG584, operated by a Boeing 737-800, departed at 8:38 am but began experiencing engine trouble after climbing to an altitude of around 2,500 feet. The pilot opted to return to Dhaka, safely landing the aircraft at 8:59 am.

“There were 154 passengers and seven crew members on board. All of them are safe and unharmed,” said Mahmudul Hasan, spokesperson for the executive director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Airport officials initially suspected a bird strike and conducted an inspection, but no signs of any foreign object or bird remains were found.

A technical evaluation is currently in progress, and further decisions about the flight will be made based on its outcome, the airport authorities added.
