Social Business Can Transform the World: Chief Adviser Yunus
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today said social business holds the potential to transform not only Bangladesh but the entire world.
He emphasized that social business is the most viable solution to ensure universal access to healthcare, adding that it can effectively tackle the challenges facing the global health sector.
Professor Yunus made these remarks while speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day Social Business Day event, held at the Samajik Convention Centre in Zirabo, Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka.
This year’s theme is: “Social Business is the Most Effective Way to Ensure Healthcare for All.”
More than 1,400 participants from 38 countries are attending the event, which brings together a diverse group of experts, thought leaders, and policymakers.
Advisers to the interim government, senior government officials, and foreign diplomats based in Dhaka were present at the opening ceremony.
Now in its 15th edition, Social Business Day is jointly organized by the Yunus Centre and the Grameen Group. The event serves as a global platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and innovations aimed at addressing inequality and systemic challenges—particularly in healthcare—towards building a fairer and more sustainable world.
The two-day programme includes five plenary sessions and eight breakout sessions exploring a range of ideas and perspectives.
Among the featured speakers are Professor Md. Saidur Rahman, Health and Family Welfare Adviser to the Chief Adviser; Omar Ishrak, former CEO and Chairman of Medtronic and former Chairman of the Board at Intel Corporation; Dr Ismail Serageldin, former Vice President of the World Bank; and Erik Solheim, former Executive Director of UN Environment and former Norwegian Minister of Environment and Climate.
