Mohammadpur police have submitted a charge sheet against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former ministers Obaidul Quader and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and 27 others in connection with the murder of Sabuj, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver.

According to official sources, the charge sheet was placed before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on November 27 after investigators found prima facie evidence implicating the accused in the killing.

Sabuj, 22, was shot dead in the Mohammadpur area on August 4 last year during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Md Mazharul Islam of Mohammadpur Police Station stated that Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, FIR-named accused Nurnabi Chowdhury Shayon, Sadek Khan, Salimullah Salu, Syed Noor Islam Ruston, Sheikh Mohammad Khokon, Bazlur Rahman, Azizul Haque Rana, Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, Riaz Mahmud, Muhammad Badiul Alam Badiuzzaman, Furkan Hossain and Shahjahan Khan were prima facie found involved in planning the murder, criminal conspiracy, financing, supplying firearms, issuing instructions and providing various forms of support.

FIR-named accused Asif Ahmed and Tarequzzaman Rajib, along with later-identified suspects Masudur Rahman Biplob and Rasel, were prima facie found responsible for shooting and killing Sabuj.

Accused Anisur Rahman Kabul, Maruful Islam Biplob, Sentu, Monir Chowdhury, Faruk Khan Abhi, Abul Kashem alias Kashu, Selim, Ayman Wasef alias Omik, Md Kamruzzaman Rubel and Milon Hossain were found prima facie involved in creating unrest with sticks and rods and attacking unarmed students and civilians at the scene, thereby directly contributing to Sabuj’s killing.

According to the case statement, on August 4, 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement, the accused opened fire with local weapons and firearms near the Allah Karim Mosque in Mohammadpur. Sabuj, who was approaching the area at the time, was struck by bullets. He was rushed to Shikder Medical College Hospital, where he died the same day.

Sabuj’s brother, Monir Hossain, filed a murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station on September 1, 2024. Following the investigation, the IO submitted the charge sheet against Sheikh Hasina and 29 others on November 27.
