PM tells JS fuel rationing lifted for police, emergency services
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today told the Jatiya Sangsad that fuel rationing for police and other emergency services has already been lifted.
“We have already addressed the concern raised by a member of parliament. The restrictions have been removed for emergency services, including police, ambulances, and fire brigades,” he said.
Responding to a point of order raised by treasury bench MP from Cumilla-6, Manirul Haque Chowdhury, the Leader of the House noted that the issue had been resolved. The lawmaker had alleged that reduced night patrols by police, citing fuel shortages, were contributing to rising crime and undermining public safety.
“We took the decision two days ago and implemented it immediately,” the Prime Minister said, expressing hope that no further problems would arise.
The session was chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad.
Tarique Rahman, also chairman of the ruling BNP, spoke after Manirul urged the government to promptly withdraw fuel rationing for law enforcement agencies.
Highlighting the urgency, Manirul said a young customs officer was recently killed in Cumilla, adding that police had informed him their night patrol operations were being affected due to fuel constraints.
