Nine drones bound for the Shaybah oil field are shot down by Saudi Arabia.
Nine drones heading toward the Shaybah Oil Field were intercepted and destroyed in the Empty Quarter, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense said on Monday.
The ministry also reported early Tuesday that a ballistic missile and several drones launched toward the Eastern Province had been successfully shot down.
The interceptions came a day after two Bangladeshi nationals were killed and 12 others injured when a projectile struck a residential area in the Kingdom’s Al-Kharj governorate.
According to the Saudi Civil Defense, the projectile landed at a site belonging to a maintenance and cleaning company in Al-Kharj on Sunday evening, causing significant material damage.
Saudi Arabia has condemned what it described as Iran’s continuing campaign of aggression against the Kingdom, other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and additional countries, warning that further escalation would ultimately bring severe consequences for Iran itself.
In a statement issued Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that if Iran continues its attacks, it will face the most severe diplomatic, economic, and strategic repercussions and would ultimately be “the biggest loser.”
The ministry described the attacks as unacceptable under any circumstances and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s right to take necessary measures to safeguard its people, territory, and sovereignty.
It also expressed the Kingdom’s deepest condolences to the governments and peoples of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates after several of their armed and security personnel were killed while carrying out their national duties.
The ministry reiterated Saudi Arabia’s solidarity with Kuwait and the UAE and pledged full support for any measures they take, while also wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
