Bangladesh’s National Security Adviser and High Representative to the Chief Adviser on Rohingya Issues, Dr Khalilur Rahman, has said the Rohingyas are prepared to return to their homeland provided their due rights are ensured.

He made the remarks while briefing the media today on the second day of the three-day international dialogue titled “Stakeholders’ Dialogue: Takeaway to the High-Level Conference on the Rohingya Situation”, jointly organised by the Office of the High Representative for the Rohingya Issue and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Hotel Baywatch in Cox’s Bazar. The event concludes tomorrow.

Dr Khalilur noted that the opening day of the dialogue on Sunday was historic, as Rohingyas themselves shared their experiences, challenges, and aspirations—marking the first time their collective voice was heard under one roof.

“Our main objective now is to carry this united voice to the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and to ensure safe repatriation through regional cooperation,” he said.

He added that the dialogue is a preparatory step ahead of the high-level conference on the Rohingya crisis, scheduled for September 30 at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Outlining the key takeaways from the discussions, Dr Khalilur said six core issues were emphasised:

  1. Rohingya voices – guaranteeing direct participation in decision-making.

  2. Repatriation – ensuring return with dignity, safety, and permanence.

  3. International support – addressing gaps in food, healthcare, education, and essential services.

  4. Dialogue and confidence-building – strengthening trust among stakeholders.

  5. Myanmar’s criminal acts – curbing crimes for stability at both local and regional levels.

  6. Accountability – holding perpetrators of crimes against Rohingyas responsible.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s commitment to resolving the crisis, Dr Khalilur said Dhaka is working with political leaders as well as international and regional partners. He expressed hope that the recommendations from the dialogue would significantly shape discussions at the UN conference.

He also mentioned that international organisations, experts, and Rohingya representatives have put forward proposals aimed at facilitating safe, dignified, and sustainable repatriation with the support of the global community and neighbouring states.

“We call on neighbouring countries to work collectively to address Myanmar’s conflict and the resulting security risks across borders,” he said.

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, and Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Public Diplomacy Wing Shah Asif Rahman were present at the briefing.
