Home Adviser says former President Hamid was not arrested due to absence of an arrest warrant.

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Sunday that former President Abdul Hamid was not arrested because no warrant has been issued against him.

Speaking to reporters after visiting Jatrabari Police Station in the capital, as reported by UNB, the adviser stated, “There is no warrant against him—that’s why he was not arrested. No innocent person will be punished. If allegations against Abdul Hamid are proven, he too will face legal action.”

He emphasised that the government is ensuring no one is wrongfully detained or harassed, and that all legal steps are being taken after thorough verification.

“This verification process applies equally to every citizen,” he said, noting that a three-member committee from the ministry is currently handling the matter.

Referring to the May 8 actions against the Superintendent of Police in Kishoreganj and the investigating officer over Hamid’s departure abroad, he added that the investigation into those incidents is still underway.

Former President Hamid returned to Dhaka on a Thai Airways flight around 1:30 am on Sunday.
