High-Level UN Meeting On Rohingya Situation Tuesday

The High-Level Conference on the Situation of Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar will take place on Tuesday at the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations Headquarters.
Representatives from at least 75 countries and organisations, including heads of state and government, have confirmed their attendance. The conference will begin at 10:00 am local time (8:00 pm Bangladesh time), according to Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
Organised by the United Nations, the conference seeks to mobilise political support, maintain international attention on the crisis, review the overall situation, and address its root causes, particularly human rights concerns. It will also provide a platform to exchange perspectives and propose a comprehensive, innovative, concrete, and time-bound plan for a sustainable solution. A key focus will be ensuring the voluntary, safe, and dignified return of Rohingya Muslims to Myanmar.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will address the opening session as one of the speakers.
Turkey will represent the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), while Kuwait will represent the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Ahead of the conference, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar Julie Bishop, and UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell met separately with the Chief Adviser on Monday. They discussed issues related to the crisis, including the situation in Rakhine state.
Briefing reporters afterwards, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said discussions focused on pathways for Rohingya repatriation, boosting funding for those living in camps, and ensuring Rohingya children receive education and skills to build their future.
