Govt Meets All Demands of JnU Students
Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam Says Govt to Soon Unveil Roadmap to Fulfill Demand

The government has agreed to meet all demands raised by the protesting students and teachers of Jagannath University (JnU), which include housing allowances, full budget approval, campus expansion, and accountability for police action against faculty members.
The announcement came from University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof SMA Faiz, just hours after demonstrators began a hunger strike at Dhaka’s Kakrail intersection to press for their demands.
Prior to this, Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam wrote on his verified Facebook page that the government would soon unveil a roadmap to resolve the JnU crisis, with the education adviser expected to announce it within hours. His post specifically mentioned addressing the university’s residential crisis.
Students and teachers have been demonstrating for over 50 hours, and the hunger strike began around 3:50pm on Friday. The strike was formally declared by Muhammad Monzur Morshed Bhuiyan, spokesperson for the JnU Teachers’ Association and a professor in the Finance department.
Current and former students have joined the protests, demanding immediate action from the government. Earlier, Mahatab Limon, general secretary of the JnU Journalists’ Association, initially announced the programme on behalf of the platform ‘Jobi Oikkya’ during a campus rally.
On Thursday, Prof Rois Uddin, general secretary of the JnU Teachers’ Association, reiterated the programme’s goals following discussions with political and social leaders on campus.
Protesters have pledged to continue their sit-in at Kakrail until all demands are fully met.
