NCP Stages Midnight Protest After Bomb Attack on July Procession Van

The National Citizen Party (NCP) staged a midnight protest early Thursday following an alleged improvised explosive attack on a digital display van involved in their “July Procession to Build the Country” programme in Dhaka.

Around 50 activists marched in the rain from the NCP’s Banglamotor headquarters to Shahbagh Metro Station at 12:30 am. The protest was led by NCP Senior Joint Convenor Ariful Islam Adib, as most senior leaders are currently in northern Bangladesh for the procession.

According to NCP Joint Member Secretary Lutfor Rahman, unidentified individuals hurled an explosive at their van near Banglamotor just before midnight on Wednesday, damaging a Tk 1 lakh digital display. “This was a deliberate attempt to create fear,” he said.

Speaking at the Shahbagh rally, Adib accused activists from the Chhatra League and Jubo League of repeated attacks on NCP members and even on martyr graves. He alleged that state institutions have failed to protect those involved in the July Uprising and warned that continued inaction might compel them to form a “July Revolutionary Force.”

This marks the second such incident in recent weeks. On June 23, another explosive was detonated near Rupayan Tower, where NCP offices are located. Despite multiple attacks, Adib criticised law enforcement’s “passive role” and urged urgent reforms of state security and intelligence agencies.
