The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former ICC Anti-Corruption Unit chief Alex Marshall as a consultant for its own Anti-Corruption Unit, with a one-year term aimed at strengthening integrity measures in the country’s cricket.

The decision was finalised at a BCB board meeting on Saturday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

BCB Media Committee Chairman Iftekhar Rahman Mithu said the board felt the need to bolster its anti-corruption operations, prompting the hiring of an experienced professional like Marshall. The former ICC official will provide training and strategic guidance to BCB’s internal unit.

Mithu noted that Bangladesh cricket has faced repeated corruption allegations, making it essential to take stronger preventive measures.

“We’ve been receiving several reports of corruption-related activities in cricket. That’s why we’re increasing our human resources and ramping up operations. Marshall’s experience with the ICC will be invaluable in strengthening this area,” he said.

The BCB also confirmed that ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit will closely monitor the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season.

The move follows multiple match-fixing allegations during the previous BPL, which prompted the BCB to set up an independent investigation committee.

With Marshall’s appointment and ICC’s oversight, the board aims to build a more transparent, accountable system to protect the integrity of Bangladeshi cricket.
