Shadman Islam Ends Century Drought with Gritty Knock Against Zimbabwe

Shadman Islam notched up his second Test century — and his first since 2021 — with a composed and confident innings against Zimbabwe on Monday.

The left-handed opener reached the landmark in the 42nd over, elegantly driving Richard Ngarava to the boundary to bring up his hundred off 142 deliveries. He had earlier completed his half-century in 78 balls.

Shadman's innings featured 16 boundaries — the highest in any of his Test innings to date, surpassing his previous best of 12 fours. Notably, his maiden century had also come against Zimbabwe in Harare in July 2021, but this was his first century on home soil.

At the close of the 42nd over, Bangladesh stood at 150 for one, with Shadman unbeaten on 101 off 145 balls, while Mominul Haque remained on 9 from 27 deliveries.
