Dhaka to Assist Malaysia in Terror Probe, Seeks Details on Arrested Bangladeshis: MoFA

Dhaka will cooperate with Malaysian authorities in their ongoing terrorism investigation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement today. The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is in regular contact with the relevant Malaysian agencies regarding the matter.

"The High Commission will provide necessary support to expatriate Bangladeshis wherever required," the statement added.

The government is closely following developments, and the mission in Kuala Lumpur has already reached out to Malaysian authorities, formally requesting details on the identities of the arrested individuals and the allegations made against them.

Malaysia’s Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail earlier announced on June 27 that 36 Bangladeshi nationals had been detained for alleged ties to an extremist group.

According to the MoFA, formal charges have been brought against five of the detainees in Malaysian courts, while the rest are either under further investigation or in the process of being deported.

The ministry reaffirmed Bangladesh’s firm stance against terrorism, violent extremism, and militancy, and expressed readiness to fully cooperate with Malaysia in this regard.

On Thursday, Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain confirmed that Dhaka has requested comprehensive information from Malaysian authorities. He added that the government would verify the allegations and, if any involvement in militancy is proven, "we will ensure their punishment."
