Commerce Adviser meets USTR as Bangladesh-US tariff talks progress

Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin met US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer at his office in Washington, DC, on Thursday morning as part of the ongoing second round of Bangladesh-US tariff negotiations.

According to a press release, the two dignitaries discussed matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on bilateral trade, commerce, and the ongoing tariff discussions.

The three-day negotiations, which began on Wednesday, entered their second day with both sides reaffirming their commitment to work collaboratively for mutual benefit.

The talks were described as comprehensive, covering nearly all key aspects of the trade relationship between the two countries.

Adviser Bashir is leading the Bangladesh delegation in Washington, while National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman and Faiz Ahmed Tayeb, special assistant to the chief adviser on ICT and telecommunications, joined virtually from Dhaka. Senior officials from the commerce ministry also participated in the discussions.

The US side included senior officials from the USTR, as well as representatives from agriculture, labor, environment and natural resources, treasury, innovation and intellectual property, and investment agencies.

The negotiations will continue on Friday.
