Chhatra Dal demands ‘mental health assessment’ of RUCSU GS Ammar
The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) unit at Rajshahi University (RU) has called for a mental health assessment and appropriate treatment for Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) General Secretary Salauddin Ammar, citing concerns over his “conduct and mental stability.”
The demand followed Ammar’s removal of a banner belonging to the president of the Zia Council after he took a stance against teacher politics on the RU campus.
The call was made in a press release issued on Monday and signed by Siam Bin Ayyub, assistant office secretary of RU Chhatra Dal. The organisation also announced plans to form a human chain and submit a memorandum to the university’s vice-chancellor later in the day in protest over the incident.
According to the press release, a series of recent controversial and indecent incidents on campus have disrupted the university’s academic environment, causing anxiety and resentment among general students. The organisation claimed that such actions by someone in a responsible position threaten the normal campus atmosphere and administrative discipline.
In this context, RU Chhatra Dal demanded a professional evaluation of RUCSU GS Salauddin Ammar’s mental health and the provision of necessary psychosocial support. It also urged the university authorities to take effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As part of the announced programme, a human chain will be held on the Rajshahi University campus at 1:00pm today, followed by the submission of a memorandum to the vice-chancellor.
The organisation has called on its leaders and activists from various halls and units to participate actively in the programme.
