Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has extended heartfelt greetings to the nation on the occasion of Bangla New Year 1432.

In a video message, he called on citizens to embrace the spirit of the New Year with renewed commitment and enthusiasm to build a new, discrimination-free Bangladesh. “The 2024 mass uprising has given us a unique chance to shape an inclusive nation. Let us seize this moment and pledge to make equality our goal in the coming year,” he said.

Describing Pahela Baishakh as a symbol of harmony and unity, the Chief Adviser remarked, “Today is a day to come closer, to bridge divides.” He urged all to leave behind past sorrows and setbacks, and move forward with hope and determination.

Professor Yunus emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the country's rich culture and traditions. “On this day, we not only celebrate our heritage but also pass it on to the next generation and present it proudly to the world,” he said.

He described Pahela Baishakh as the "festival of life" for Bangalees, a joyous occasion uniting the community across the globe. Reflecting on the origins of the Bangla calendar as an agricultural cycle, he noted that farmers still rely on it for planting and harvesting.

The Chief Adviser highlighted the continued relevance of traditional customs such as ‘Halkhata’—the ceremonial opening of new account books—observed in markets and trading hubs nationwide. He also praised the creativity displayed at Baisakhi fairs, where artisans showcase traditional crafts like shital pati, clay toys, hand fans, and more.

He acknowledged the vibrant celebrations of both Chaitra Sankranti and Nababarsha by various ethnic communities across the country, reflecting Bangladesh's cultural diversity.

Expressing hope for a prosperous and joyful year ahead, Professor Yunus wished success to all events organized in celebration of Bangla New Year 1432.
